Sperm Whales Sleeping
Sperm Whales Sleeping
A sperm whale sleeps by drifting peacefully in a vertical position, motionless and serene. By regulating their buoyancy through special adaptations, they can effortlessly remain suspended in the water, conserving energy.
These magnificent giants have a unique way of sleeping that sets them apart from other marine mammals. Unlike dolphins or seals that sleep with half of their brain at a time, sperm whales indulge in full-blown slumber, allowing both hemispheres of their brain to rest simultaneously.
In their watery world of darkness, sperm whales also rely on their acute senses to navigate and communicate. Their clicks and vocalizations can travel for miles, allowing them to stay connected even in the vast expanse of the ocean.
