Best of Bali Gourmet Coffee
Early coffee cultivation in Bali began back in 1600's and 1700's under Dutch colonial rule. Today Bali has some of the most amazing coffee grown in the world. More than 90% of the coffee farms are family owned and practice a method of traditional farming called Subak Abian which is based on Hindu Philosophy. According to this philosophy, the three causes of happiness are good relations with God, other people and the environment.
This part of the philosophy relating to the environment favors happiness with the environment by producing organic coffee or lack of using agrochemicals. The Subak Abian system organizes smallholders, which is often a requirement of fair trade certification. Thus this system has produced exceptional coffee beans and given the island an improved socioeconomic standard of living.
Generally, Balinese coffee is processed using the wet method. This results in a sweet, soft coffee with good consistency. This coffee is Rainforest Alliance Certified, comes from the Kintamani Highlands in Bali and is typically harvested once a year July thru October. The coffee is hand picked, dried on mats to 40% moisture, then hulled resulting in a very flavorful smooth cup of coffee.
The Best of Bali is rated 4 out of 5 cups for a medium to strong cup of coffee.
